Stone Fruit- For Guitar/Ukulele
By Evangeline Roane
Chords: C F Am G
This is a song I wrote at the end of 2025. It was originally a poem, but with the help of my lecturer I’ve turned it into a really simple song with 4 chords.
It’s been a massive learning curve for me to turn poems into songs.
I think poetry is such a vulnerable and private thing that sharing it with others feels really difficult, especially when I’m asking for feedback or criticism.
It seems to me that most of my class mates see the poetry/lyric/music elements as one large process, but for me the poetry comes so naturally, but putting it to music is such a challenge. I suppose it makes sense for music students to be good at music :/
I do not consider this song complete, but it’s my first song and I think it’s okay for it to be really basic.
[Verse 1]
C C
The night hums soft through the
F
windowpane.
Am. G
Silver moths beat against the screen
C. F
You were drawing circles on my wrist
Am. G
Said you dreamed of running to the sea
[Chorus]
C. F
Oh, the moon’s just a bruise on the
Am. G
shoulder of the sky
Am. C. F.
And I’m trying to remember what it felt like
G
to cry
C. F
For no reason, just the season, just the
Am. G
turning of the tide
C. Am G
You and I, stone fruit on the vine.
[Verse 2]
C. F. F.
Your laughter came like weather in July
Am. G
Sudden rain, then it dried
C. F. F
In the orchard we were half-alive
F. Am. G. F.
Spitting pits, naming clouds, feeling high
[Chorus]
C. F
Oh, the moon’s just a bruise on the
Am. G
shoulder of the sky
Am C. F.
And I’m trying to remember what it felt like
G
to cry
C. F
For no reason, just the season, just the
Am. G
turning of the tide
C. Am C C
You and I, stone fruit on the vine
C Am G
There’s a bird that sings at 3 a.m.
C. F. C
I swear it only calls your name
C Am
And though the dawn will split the dark
G. G.
again
C. F. C. C
It’ll never sound the same
[Outro]
C. F
So I’ll keep the pit inside my pocket
Am. G.
Let it dry, let it dream
C. F
If it grows, maybe someday
C F
It’ll find you in the breeze
C. F
For no reason, just the season, just the
Am. G
turning of the tide
C. Am C C
You and I, stone fruit on the vine
C. Am. C. G C
You and I , Stone Fruit on the vine.
